Contributions to MyLearning and the Learning Community 5318+5389

I have been fortunate to work with an incredible collaborative group for both 5318 and 5389.

Me, Shaneigh, Deena, Lance, Lauren,  have supported each other through thick and thin, and I am grateful for their friendship and guidance. Lance, in particular, has an been invaluable resource, sharing his insights and experience with us that are just getting started. I am so thankful for my collaborative group, and I am proud of what we have accomplished together.

As I complete courses 5318 and 5389, I've taken time to reflect on how I participated in and contributed to the learning community over the past several months. My goal was to fully immerse myself in order to grow as an instructional designer and educational technology professional. Here are the final scores I give myself for both courses:

5318 -"Instructional Design Online Learning": 95/100

5389- "Develop Effective Professional Learning": 94/100

Contributing to the Learning Experience

For 5318, I made it a priority to actively engage with the course materials each week - carefully reviewing video lessons, readings, and resources. I found taking detailed notes while watching lectures helped cement my understanding. When unclear on concepts, I didn't hesitate to pose questions to the instructor and peers to clarify. I was an involved, communicative member of my small collaboration group with Lauren Lance, Deena and Shaneigh. We regularly consulted each other for feedback and suggestions on assignments. We did this through regular private Zoom sessions 🔍 as well as a GroupMe 💬 channel that we talked to each other in DAILY!.

I aimed to provide insightful critiques to push their thinking and design approaches. For the gamified course project, I dedicated extensive time researching innovative instructional strategies to make recommendations that enriched their final implementation courses. All projects were diligently revised and refined based on instructor feedback before submission. This iterative process solidified my learning and helped produce higher quality work.

Through the discussion forums on Blackboard, ⬛ I strived to contribute posts that moved the conversations forward, providing  analysis and research-backed perspectives. My goal was to share ideas that motivated deeper reflections and insights from peers.

For 5389, I embraced the "learn by doing" pedagogical approach. I went beyond just completing assigned tasks and prototypes, but spent extra time experimenting hands-on with tools and learning environments. This experiential tinkering helped me overcome implementation hurdles. Click the image below to go to my completed assignments for that course:

My collaboration group was an invaluable sounding board for brainstorming learning experience ideas and troubleshooting design challenges. I continuously sought their feedback and recommendations for improving my projects, while providing the same for them.

Additionally, I made myself available to answer questions and elaborate on concepts for classmates who needed extra support, both through discussions forums and virtual meetings. If I couldn't provide clarity myself, I pointed them to relevant readings or resources that could.

Outside of coursework, I continued to be active in several education/instructional design communities on Discord to expand my professional learning network. Interacting with designers across the field helped expose me to unique perspectives and emerging practices.

Here is my complete self assessment document for this term as was required by the 5389 course:

Overall, I aimed to be an active, engaged, and supportive member of the learning community this term. Through diligent work, constant communication, providing and receiving feedback, and wider professional networking, I believe I made positive contributions that enriched my own learning process as well as benefitted my peers. These experiences have better prepared me for success as an instructional designer and an innovative teacher.
